Differences Between CD DVD Media

Even though both CD and DVD disks have the same media size and shape, the things they have in common ends there. There are many different things between the two, such as what they hold and how much they hold.  Data pits and lasers.

A disc has microscopic grooves that will move along in a spiral around the disc. CDs and DVDs both have these grooves, with laser breams applied to scan these very grooves. As you may know, digital information is represented in ones and zeroes.

Inside of these discs, very tiny reflective bumps known as lands and non reflective holes known as pits, which can be found beside the grooves, reflect both the ones and the zeroes of digital information.

By reducing the wave length of the laser to 625mm or more infrared light, DVD technology has managed to write in smaller pits when compared to the standard technology of CD.

This will allow for a greater amount of data per track on the DVD. The minimum length allowed for a pit in a single layer DVD-R is .4 micron, which is obviously more than the .0834 micron that a CD offers.

The tracks of a DVD are narrower as well, which allows for more tracks per disc, which also translates into more capacity than a CD.  The avaerage single layer DVD holds 4.5 GB of data, while a CD holds a mere 700 MB.

As stated above, a DVD has smaller pits and the lasers need to focus on them. This is actually achieved by using a thinner plastic substrate than in a CD, which means that the laser needs to pass through a thinner layer, with less depth to reach the pits.

It’s this reduction in thickness that’s responsible for the discs that were only 0.6mm thickness – which is half  that of a CD.  Data access speed DVDs will access data at a much faster rate than a CD can. The average 32X CD-ROM drive reads data at 4MB a second, while a 1X DVD drive reads at 1.38MB a second. This is even faster than an 8X CD drive.

Universal data format

The recording formats of  CDs and DVDs are quite different, as DVDs use UDF, or the Universal Data Format. This format allows data, video, audio, or even a combination of all three to be stored in a single file structure. The advantage to this is any file can be accessed by any drive, computer, or even consumer video.

Learning About Data Recovery

At some point in time, everyone who owns a computer will experience the trials and tribulations of hard drive failure. The reasons behind it vary, and could include everything from a human error to damages resulting from flood or water. Viruses can play a role as well, along with many other factors. For many years, the need to recover data that has been lost or destroyed has made data recovery such a very valuable asset.

Almost all hard drives can be recovered. Normally, if the drive is making a ticking or a scratching noise, you can use certain software programs to recover the data. Sometimes, due to age or bad parts, the aperture arm in the hard drive can fail, or the platters can become damaged and lose the data that they hold. If you can’t recover the information with software, you’ll need to send the hard drive off and have it either rebuilt or have technicians recover your data.

Data recovery is always an option, from hard drives that are 2 GB in size to the largest of over 300 GB or more of data. No matter what size hard drive you have, the data can generally be recovered. Keep in mind that if you’ve had a computer crash, you’ll need to send the hard drive off to have the data recovered by technicians.

One of the key benefits of data recovery is the fact that information can also be retrieved from the recycle bin as well. Partition recovery, and even information that has been lost somewhere on the disk can be retrieved as well. Even though it may seem like your data is gone forever – the technicians that specialize in data recovery can retrieve it.

From Windows to Mac, everything can be recovered. There are different filing structures and formats, including NTFS and FAT32. These are common Windows filing structures, and hold all of the information for your hard.

Those of you who have multiple hard drives in your computer, can rest assured that RAID configurations can also be recovered. If a single hard drive on the RAID configuration fails, the RAID setup will absorb the blow and there won’t be a loss of data. On the other hand, if the entire RAID configuration crashes, it will crash big time. Whenever this happens, you’ll need to send it off and have technicians restore both the RAID hardware and software.

Anytime your hard drive happens to crash or malfunction, data recovery is there to help you get back your files. Whether they are personally files or very important files that are need for business – you can put your trust in data recovery and know that you’ll get everything the back the way it was.

Satellite Radio – The Advantages

One of the great advantages of satellite radio is the fact that the programs are not interrupted by commercials. This is because the provider’s income comes from listeners and not from advertisers. Satellite radio services offer around 70 programs of commercial fee music channels each and you have a great variety of choices, from mainstream rock, hip-hop and dance music to folk music, opera, blues and many more.

Another great thing about satellite radio is the absence of static. You can be driving from the West Coast to the East Coast in the United States of America and you will not get any static at all on the way. The satellite radio signal is digital, which means that you will get crystal-clear sound wherever you go.

Satellite radio tuners receive, along with the actual radio programs, an influx of metadata that consists of information regarding song title, artist, radio program and radio channel. This means that your satellite radio receiver will display all the necessary information about what you are listening to. For instance, if you hear a great song and you want to know which artist sings it, you just look at the receiver‘s display.

All satellite radio programs are uncensored. This is one of the reasons why artists like Howard Stern chose to move their shows on satellite radio. You can also listen to your favorite hip-hop songs without the interruption of those annoying ‘beep’ sounds.

Satellite radio programs also offer information about local traffic and weather conditions. The information is very detailed especially for those who live in big cities. If there is a major national calamity and other terrestrial radio stations will not work, you can always count on getting accurate information from satellite radio program. You can also listen to satellite radio online on your computer.

If you still are not convinced on why you should pay money for something that you can get for free, think about how much time you have wasted listening to commercials and all kinds of other boring stuff on terrestrial radio programs. Traditional radio is not free, despite the popular belief. It is time-consuming and irritating because you have to listen to five minutes or more of commercials so that you can finally hear a song you like. The satellite radio subscriptions are very affordable and, for around 13 dollars per month, you get exactly the programs you want, which you can listen to wherever you are, at the best sound quality.

Satellite radio is great for you especially if you travel a lot. If you are traveling across the United States of America, for example, you can listen to the channel or channels you want during your whole trip, without losing signal or getting static. If you have a traditional radio, you will have to keep changing channels every hundred miles, but if you are using satellite radio you do not have to do that because the geographically availability of programs is not a problem. Satellite radio subscribers will soon get the chance to watch video programs as well. Both Sirius and XM services have announced their intention of introducing in the near future a variety of video satellite channels that will have some of the great advantages that are currently available to satellite radio: commercial free programs, great quality of sound and vast geographical availability.

Troubleshooting Your iPhone

Where you can turn to and what can you do if you are having problems with your iPhone. There are many reasons that you might be experiencing problems. Before you can correct what is wrong, you have to know what is causing your problems.

Apple’s website has a lot of information about what you can do to correct your iPhone problems. Listed below are some common issues. Troubleshooting your iPhone is not as difficult as you would think. Let us take a look at some common problems and solutions.

Is your iPhone “frozen” or not working? If so, let’s take a look and see why. Does it need to be recharged? You can charge the iPhone with a high-powered USB port, not on a low powered one. If you are using your PC to charge your iPhone, be sure that your USB port is a high-powered port. If you are using a USB hub, check the power, some are low powered, your keyboard USB port (if you have one) is low powered. Only a high-powered USB port will charge your iPhone.

If you are sure that your iPhone is fully charged, try restarting it. To do this hold the sleep/wake button and wait for a red colored slider to appear. Then slide your finger across this red slider and this will turn off the unit. Wait at least 10 seconds before you restart. You restart the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button until you see the Apple logo.

Is your iPhone locked up? Did an application freeze? If you press the home button and continue holding for about 6 seconds or so you should be able to cancel the program that is locked up. Then restart your iPhone.

There is the ability to actually reset the Apple iPhone. To do this you need to press and hold the wake/sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding these two buttons down at the same time until the Apple Logo appears. Ignore any other symbols that may appear. It is important that you wait for the Apple Logo before releasing the two buttons.

Sometimes content that is not synced properly will cause problems for your iPhone. This will require more than a restart. Connect your iPhone to your computer and go to the iTunes site. Change your sync options for each of the following categories: contacts, podcasts, calendars, videos, and MP3s. You may have to remove several files that may be causing problems.

If none of the above items work when troubleshooting your iPhone, try resetting it. Go to settings and then general, then reset, then reset all settings. This will reset everything but keep all of your files and documents intact. Hopefully this will solve your problems.

However if you are still having problems with your iPhone at this point you may have to reset the phone. This will unfortunately remove all of your saved files, folders, and content so do this with caution. You may want to try to backup all of your content before attempting this.

To reset all of the iPhone’s settings, go to settings, select general, then choose reset, and finally pick erase all contents and settings. Everything on your iPhone will be reset and all of your content that you have saved will be erased. This will include pictures, music and videos, text messages, files, folders, added on applications and more. It puts your iPhone back to the state when you first bought it. Use this option with care.

As you can see there are many ways to reset or unfreeze your iPhone. If you are still having problems the best advice I can give you is to go to Apple’s website and click on the troubleshooting guide for the iPhone. They have an enormous amount of information out there for you. Just go to apple.com and follow the links to get to the iPhone troubleshooting area. This may be the best way for troubleshooting your iPhone.
